4 Tips Christians Can Use To Strengthen Their Marriage

by Wayne Owens

The relationship you have with your spouse is one of the most integral relationships in your life. In order to have a happy and successful marriage, you have to be willing to work at it. Here are four tips every Christian can use to strengthen their marriage.

1. Go on dates.

Becoming complacent in your marriage is one of the worst things you can do. You should never stop trying to woo and impress your spouse. Make sure to make them feel special as often as possible. One way you can accomplish this is by scheduling regular dates. Having a weekly or biweekly date night will give you both a chance to reconnect. Visit your favorite restaurant and make it a rule that neither of you can talk about work, kids, or household tasks. Spend time taking the opportunity to deeply enjoy one another's company instead.

2. Spend quality time together.

Romancing one another through dates and other fun courtship activities is important. However, it's just as important to spend small, quiet moments together on a daily basis. Most people are busy between work and all their other commitments, but if your marriage is important to you, you'll make time for your spouse. You can try spending time with one another in the morning. Set your alarm half an hour earlier so you can spend some time having coffee, reading the Bible, and having devotional time together.

3. Visit a Christian marriage counselor.

When people think of marriage counseling, they usually think of a couple on the brink of divorce. However, marriage counseling can be used in a preventative way as well. If you feel you have some communication difficulties with your spouse, marriage counseling can help you learn to talk to each other in a more open and effective way. If your faith is central to your life and marriage, you'd do well to find a marriage counselor who shares your Christian values. They will be able to analyze and strengthen your marriage through a Biblical, Christian lens.

4. Pray for each other.

Praying for your spouse is one of the best ways you can show that you care. Lifting up your spouse in prayer benefits them, but it can also work to change your heart. As you consider their well-being and ask God to bless them, you will have a chance to practice selflessness and consider all the ways that you can personally help your spouse.

About Me

Never Be Afraid to Get the Psychological Help You Need

After developing a chronic physical illness, I soon began realizing that the disease plagued my mind almost more than it did my body. While my illness is not life-threatening, it was very difficult accepting that I would have to take medication for the rest of my life and eat a strict diet. After a year of depression, I finally overcame my fear of "exposing" my feelings to others and made an appointment with a mental health counselor. With her help, I was able to see the "silver linings" in life that I had greatly taken for granted before I became ill. I now encourage anyone who is battling an illness of any type to seek the psychological help they need. I plan to post lots of little mental health tips and tricks on my new blog along with advice for choosing a good counselor. Please come back soon!
